Our return to performance protocol following an ACL tear/repair is influenced by our training methods along with recent research.
We start the process before surgery, 4 weeks of Prehab to prepare the athlete for the recovery after surgery. The goal of Prehab is :
We want the athlete as close to 100 percent before going into surgery.
Rehabilitation
We begin 24-48 hours after surgery. (2) 120 minute sessions per day for 6 days. Sunday - Friday. Reducing swelling and restoring quad function is paramount within first 5 days. The goal for the athlete is to have full extension and 90 degrees of flexion no later than 5 days post surgery.
Modalities
We use a variety tools to get our athletes back on he field/court:
Principles
Recent Research has shown that an ACL injury as more to do with sensorimotor function rather than strictly biomechanics. In our training and rehabilitation we account for vision and decision-making. After an ACL Rupture there is a brain lesion that slows the rate of contraction and that needs to rectified before returning to sport.
